PERFECTIONISM: Have you ever done a single task almost 20 times just to get it perfect? Have you ever procrastinated on your work till you became overwhelmed? How do you often feel after this? Anxiety, stress?
Then you are a perfectionist.
.
Now, who is a perfectionist? A perfectionist is a person whose standards are unattainable or unreasonable and who relentlessly and compulsively strives to achieve impossibly high standards, valuing themselves solely in terms of output and accomplishment. Perfectionism is a dangerous weakness, and not a strength.
.
??????? ????? ???? ??? ??? ? ?????????????:
1. You procrastinate, waiting for the perfect time.
2: You continuously edit, rework, or revise a single piece, causing you to take an inordinate amount of time to finish and move on.
3: Having unrealistic desires and goals, which lead to stress and anxiety. Examples: having the desire to make 100 million a day, wanting to write 50 articles a day, or finishing 100 books a day. These are ridiculous!
Now, there are two kinds of perfectionism.
.
1: ??????????- ??????? ?????????????:
These types of people have high standards for themselves and also apply them to other people. They seek excellence at all costs, even in their highly unrealistic goals and desires. These people are further divided into:
I) SELF-ORIENTED PERFECTIONIST: Having high expectations of oneself
ii) OTHERS-ORIENTATED PERFECTIONIST: Having high expectations of others.
iii) SOCIALLY PRESCRIBED PERFECTIONIST: other people having high standards for you. The pressure of this is too much, and it is accompanied by so much stress and anxiety.
.
2: ???????- ???????? ?????????????:
These people are more worried about not failing. They think they are not good enough and often listen to people’s suggestions on their lives. Being a perfectionist doesn’t make you better; rather it makes you become a shadow of yourself. You spend a long time doing a specific task, and then you have the “This is not good enough” thought, and you discard all of your efforts. Why? Now, I will hold your hands and walk you through on how to stop being a perfectionist.
.
1: SET REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS:
Relax your standards and see your ideas as possibilities for a better world. You want to be a copywriter, graphics designer, marketing coach, international fiction writer, parenting coach, lecturer, and politician all at once. Ahhh, Mr. AGODOR, rest!!! Take one possible goal at a time.
.
2: BE PERFECT IN YOUR USE OF TIME:
Have a to-do list each day and use the time wisely. Possibly, use deadlines. Allow yourself to focus on completing a task at a particular time. Then, reward yourself afterward.
.
3: BEGIN AND MAKE A MESS.
Get started first and make as many mistakes as you will make. And don’t forget to analyze each mistake and learn from them.
.
4: BE CONSCIOUS THAT YOUR IMPERFECTIONS ARE NOT THAT SERIOUS:
Your imperfections can act as an attractive agent for you. It can attract constructive criticism, feedback, and corrections. Be imperfect on purpose. Have this awareness that you are not perfect, and you are bound to make mistakes. Learn and move on.
.
5: IMPROVE ONE PERCENT EACH TIME:
Each time you do your work, try to improve by at least one per cent. In a year, that one percent can result in you being nearly perfect in your work.
.
6: DON’T COMPARE YOURSELF TO OTHERS:
Don’t ever consider comparison as part of your life. It is worse than drinking sniper. Love yourself enough to know that you are unique. Work on things as YOU, not as others. Perfectionism is the voice of the oppressor, the enemy of the people.
.
Instead of waiting for perfection, “run with what you do and fix it along the way.” –PAUL AIDEN.
